The Challenge
Although agronomists see soil test based fertilizer recommendations sustainable and economical, growers face uncertainty with their effectiveness, therefore avoiding the regular use of them when planning their fertility requirements.
The Project
Study long-term effects of different soil test based fertilizer rates on crop production, profit margin, and soil properties; and to communicate the findings to growers.
The Results
Yield increased with amount of fertilizer applied (fertilizer rates ranged from 0-140% of soil test recommendations), indicating that crops did benefit from fertilizer applications based on soil test recommendations.
Grower Benefits
Growers can have confidence in soil test based fertilizer recommendations and see yield benefit in following through with said recommendations.
