The Challenge
Extensive use of the same clubroot resistant canola cultivars can lead to the breakdown of current genetic resistance. To combat this, it is important to have cultivars that have multiple resistance genes.
The Project
Introgress clubroot resistance from Brassica rapa to canola. The B. rapa germplasm used in this research carries resistance to pathotypes 3 and 3A. This resistance is not strongly associated with the two well-known sources of CR, meaning it could be a new source of resistance.
The Results
Grower Benefits
New sources of clubroot resistance will help to avoid breakdown of genetic resistance, giving growers better clubroot control without compromising yield.
