The Challenge

Knowledge about the biology and genetic diversity of P. brassicae is limited because it cannot be grown in culture. Growing this pathogen in pure culture in the lab would be much easier to produce and bulk up single spore isolates and to discover target genes for breeding purposes.

The Project

Develop methods for consistent in vitro culture of P. brassicae and to produce pure cultures of some of the major pathotypes.

The Results

This section will be updated upon completion of the project.

Grower Benefits

Not only would this project improve resources to breed clubroot resistant canola, but it would also quicken result outcomes as the alternative (bioassays) are extremely laborious and do not produce numerous pathotypes within an isolate.
