The Challenge
Weeds are the costliest pest problem in cultivated fields, and therefore have a major impact on production costs, yield, and quality.
The Project
Sample fields to determine weed density and species diversity, as well as a detailed questionnaire on the management practices of the sampled fields answered by the grower using the land.
The Results
229 of 600 questionnaires were returned in 2009, and 299 of 950 questionnaires were returned in 2010, for a total of 528 insightful and helpful responses focussed on weed and crop management.
Grower Benefits
With over 30 years of data, growers can understand best management practices (sprayer technology, herbicide use and management of herbicide resistant weeds) for specific weeds to obtain the most economically feasible pest control to increase return and quality within their cultivated fields.
