The Challenge
Quinclorac resistance in false cleavers has been documented in Alberta. They have also been identified as a high-risk species for glyphosate resistance. There is currently no proactive screening in false cleavers for quinclorac and glyphosate resistance.
The Project
Screen false cleavers samples collected in both the 2014-2017 and 2019-2023 Prairie herbicide Resistance Survey for quinclorac and glyphosate resistance to create maps of presence/frequency of herbicide resistance, document changes in frequency over both time frames, and conduct technology transfer activities to inform Prairie producers of resistance status.

Grower Benefits
Identifying the presence and frequency of herbicide resistance in cleavers will contribute to the development of weed control technologies, strategies, and recommendations to help growers reduce selection pressure for weed resistance.
