If drought concerns, disease pressure, or low commodity prices have you scratching your head on crop rotation tweaks, Alberta farmers have access to two, free crop planning and profitability programs offered by the provincial agriculture department.
The first program, Crop Choice$, allows farmers to input their own costs and yield expectations, and is also fully integrated with crop insurance so farmers can see how premiums may work in the risk management mix. Farmers can add or subtract land, and can access benchmark values when their own farm’s numbers may not be available.
The second program, AgriProfit$, involves a face-to-face consultation for farmers looking to analyze their overall farm profitability, including enterprise-specific evaluations. Both programs are offered free of charge for Alberta farmers.
