The preliminary 2019 CPT small plot data report is now available on the canolaperformancetrials.ca website for viewing and downloading. Since this is preliminary data, note that it may be subject to change. For this reason, it is currently only available as a pdf report and has not been added into the online database. Once the final 2019 CPT dataset is approved and completed, it will be posted on the CPT website.
The 2019 program acknowledges the funding from Alberta Canola, SaskCanola and the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, along with contributions from the B.C. Grain Producers Association. The 2019 trials were again coordinated by Haplotech under the direction from the CPT Governance and Technical Committees and the Canola Council of Canada supported on the delivery of the program.

Results for the 2018 Canola Performance Trials (CPT), which compared 29 new and leading canola varieties, are now available through the online searchable database at
CPT 2018 included Clearfield, Liberty Link and Roundup Ready varieties grown in short-, mid- and long-season-zone locations across Western Canada. It also included nine straight-cut small plot trials and a good selection of clubroot-resistant (CR) varieties.
“With 10 clubroot-resistant varieties in the trials this year, the data provide a valuable seed-decision tool as the disease continues to spread across the Prairies,” says John Guelly, chair of the CPT Governance Committee.
Using the online searchable database, located at the bottom of the page at canolaperformancetrials.ca, growers can filter CPT results by province, season zone and herbicide-tolerance system. They can also search all varieties or do head-to-head comparisons of two or three varieties. Simply select a year and other filter parameters, and click ‘Search Trials’ to produce graphs and a data table displaying yield, days to maturity, height and lodging comparisons. A map shows the locations for all trials that fit the selections.
The online tool can also compare variety results over a number of years. The CPT program has been running since 2011, and all data collected over the past eight years is available.
“Canola grower organizations continue to fund these trials because growers see good value from the independent, third-party data on new and familiar canola varieties,” says Guelly.
Alberta Canola, SaskCanola and the Manitoba Canola Growers Association fund the program, along with contributions from the British Columbia Grain Producers Association. CPTs are guided by Governance and Technical Committees, which include grower representation, and facilitated by a contracted coordinator (Haplotech). Seed for 2018 trials was provided by the distributing companies.

The 2018 Canola Performance Trials (CPT) small plot and field scale data booklet is now available.
The booklet displays yield, height, lodging, days to maturity and calculated gross revenue values for 29 varieties (from all three HT systems) grown in short, mid and long season zone locations all across western Canada. It features results from 18 standard and nine straight cut small plot trials, as well as 42 field scale trials across the Prairies (including 13 standard, 20 straight cut and nine clubroot‑resistant variety field scale trials).
The three Prairie canola grower groups – Alberta Canola Producers Commission (Alberta Canola), the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SaskCanola) and the Manitoba Canola Growers Association – funded the 2018 program. As a means of participation, the B.C. Grain Producers Association conducted trials in the Peace region. The provincial oilseed specialists and industry scientists provided expertise. The Canola Council of Canada delivered the program working closely with the CPT Governance and Technical Committees and the contracted coordinator (Haplotech). Seed was provided by the distributing companies.
The 2018 CPT dataset has not been added to the online database yet, but we are working to get it incorporated as soon as we can.
