2022 Director Nominations for Alberta Canola

The Alberta Canola Producers Commission is seeking four canola growers to serve as directors on the board of directors for a three-year term. Alberta Canola divides Alberta into 12 regions, with each region electing a producer director to represent the canola growers within that region.

In 2022, director nominations are open for regions 1, 4, 7, 10
(regions are defined at the bottom of this page)

Who can become a director?

An eligible producer is defined as any producer who has grown canola in Alberta or is entitled to a share of canola grown in Alberta under a crop share arrangement, and who has paid or submitted a service charge (levy) to the commission on canola sold within the past August 1, 2020 on canola grown in regions 1, 4, 7, or 10 is an eligible producer and can let their name stand as a director in 2022.

Eligible producers can be individuals or represent a corporation, partnership, or organization. In order to be nominated, eligible producers must grow canola within the defined region but do not have to reside within it.

What are the steps in the nomination process?

  1. Ensure that you are an eligible producer (canola grown in the region and a service charge paid within the previous two crop years).
  2. Download a nomination package and forms.
  3. Obtain the required signatures of 10 eligible producers in the region.
  4. Submit your nomination papers before 4:00pm on October 31, 2022.

What is the process if there is more than one nomination?

  1. At the close of the nomination period, Alberta Canola’s Executive Director (Chief Electoral Officer) will contact all nominees.
  2. In the event that there is more than one nominee, an election within the designated region will be held.
  3. Nominees at this time will provide Alberta Canola with a bio, photo, and comments to be included in an election package that will be mailed to eligible producers in the region.
  4. Eligible producers will return their secret ballot by mail to Alberta Canola.

When do new directors start with Alberta Canola?

New directors will begin their 3 year term following the Alberta Canola Annual General Meeting in January 2023.
